Discover Maui’s Upcountry Wonders on a Guided Day Tour

Leave the heat of Maui’s South shore behind and step into the cool charm of Upcountry Maui—a lush, elevated landscape where rolling farms, botanical gardens, and timeless local Maui towns reveal a completely different side of the island. You’ll get a taste of a more relaxed, local way of life, away from the tourists and surrounded by spectacular, outsized greenery and tropical flora, and gain an appreciation for the very different feel and lifestyle of Kula, Makawao, and Paia. From the pine forests and Jurassic-like foliage of Kula, to the Paniolo (cowboy) tone and lifestyle of Makawao, to the chic, laid-back shoreline surf town of Paia, you’ll cruise the areas and attractions that the local Kihei and Wailea residents enjoy on their island weekend getaway outings.

You’ll travel in comfort aboard our deluxe Mercedes Sprinter coach, where panoramic windows, air-conditioning, and thoughtful amenities set the tone for an unforgettable day. We’ll greet you right at your resort or condo, then head inland for a guided journey that blends breathtaking views, authentic local experiences, and plenty of aloha.

  • Surfing Goat Dairy – Stroll through pastures, meet friendly goats (baby goats, too, if you’re lucky!), and learn how award-winning cheeses and chocolates are created in  this guided tour of a functioning, 42-acre goat dairy and playground perched on the hillside of the dormant Haleakala Volcano.  Sample nationally recognized cheese and incredible goat-milk chocolate truffles, among other treats. One of Maui’s most popular local attractions and great for all ages.
  • Kula Country Farms – For more than 80 years this legendary family-run farm has served Maui locals with an array of crops – including seasonal strawberry picking and the largest Halloween pumpkin patch in Hawaii. Sample farm-fresh fruits and veggies and take in one of the most dramatic views on the island, a sweeping panorama of the faraway Kihei and Wailea beaches below.
  • Kula Botanical Gardens – You’ll wander the pathways of this hidden tropical oasis and experience more than 2,000 plant varieties, including exotic tropical and subtropical plants and orchids. It’s Maui like you’ve never seen – a taste of the Jurassic-like jungle, amidst waterfalls, streams, rock formations. There’s even an aviary, and one of the largest koi ponds in the entire Hawaiian islands.
  • Makawao Drive-Through – We’ll cruise through Maui’s historic cowboy town, where vestiges of Maui’s historical “Paniolo” culture still thrive today. This charming town is now home to an array of charming shops and is the hub of the island’s ongoing ranching and farming concerns. A locals favorite, Makawao also hosts one of Hawaii’s largest rodeos.
  • Paia Town (Lunch Stop) – Nestled on Maui’s north shore, Paia Town was once a thriving community serving an active Sugar Mill and Plantation. You’ll pass by the skeletal remains of the mill, and into a sleepy two-street town that through the years transformed into a laid-back surf town and trendy shopping mecca. Explore the galleries and boutiques, and soak in the unique, laid-back Paia surf vibe. A half-dozen great restaurants await; choose from our curated recommendations or discover your own new favorite.
  • Ho‘okipa Beach Park – We’ll wrap up the day in style, overlooking one of the world’s premiere windsurfing and kiteboarding beaches, where professional wave-dancers carve across and over the surf and Maui’s famed north-shore surfers challenge waves that routinely span fifteen feet. You’ll experience it from a safe, cliffside vantage point – or take a 5-minute hike to the beach, and get a closer look. More often than not, we’re treated to the sight of Maui’s beloved “honu” (sea turtles) sun-bathing on the sand below.
